The plaque on the Lippett House reads, “Governor Henry Lippitt, 1865”and marks the estate’s significance as a member of the Register of Historic places. In fact, the house still boasts many of the original designs and decorations that were built to suit the Rennaissance Revival and Italian elements found both inside and out. In careful restoration, the house is open with intimate grounds that complement the intimate interior.
The house has played host to intimate weddings, receptions, corporate gatherings, film productions, performances, and bridal / baby showers. Rental use includes the five main rooms on the first floor, a 25 foot working fountain (weather permitting), and a full catering kitchen. The house can seat 60 for a full dinner with space for dancing and a bar, or 50 guests when arranged for a buffet style reception. Cocktail events of 75 or under are perfectly suited for the Lippitt House’s Victorian décor and design. Located at 199 Hope Street, on the East Side of Providence. Surrounding the property are parts of Brown University’s campus and other historic homes and buildings. Close by are bustling Thayer and Wickenden Streets which out-of-town guests will surely want to browse either before or after your event for local shops, nightlife, and restaurants.
