Nestled on sprawling grounds along the Narragansett Bay, lies the breathtaking Blithewold Mansion. Corporate groups, associations, private parties, and weddings have used the mansion and the estate grounds as an event backdrop highlighting its countless alcoves and interior detail. The estate was built in the early 1800’s as a summer retreat for a Pennsylvania coal magnate, and later sold to well-known Bristolian John Dewolf who is responsible for making the mansion what it is today. The grounds, covering 32 acres along the bay, have been manicured and planted with several varieties of plants, flowers, and trees from North America, Europe, and Asia. Guests will see ginko, linden, magnolia, bamboo, beech, and various oaks. Examples of the horticultural work include a dedicated bamboo grove, and an impressive water garden with Asian trees and flowering plants.
On what was once a tennis court, is now a dedicated event reception space that is floored with slate and tented for used primarily in the spring, summer, and fall months. Venturing towards the mansion and running along back of the house, cocktail and appetizers can be had on a veranda overlooking the magnificent lawn and Narragansett Bay. To the side of the house, is a romantic enclave where couples can say their nuptials in the serenity and peace of a manicured garden. Inside the mansion, guests can mingle among 45 perfectly detailed 19th century rooms.
Guest numbers of 225 can be accommodated under the 100 x 40 foot century tent adjacent to the house.
