Host to Bar and Bat Mitzvah’s, Anniversaries, Corporate Functions, Cocktail Events, Wedding Receptions, and Birthday Parties, the Aldrich House (also known as the Dr. Tobey House) is one of Providence’s most elegant and historic event venues. Built in 1821, and deeded to the preservation society in 1974 by a wealthy New York banker and ambassador to Great Britain, the Aldrich House has served as a historic house museum and the Society’s headquarters ever since. Members of the Aldrich family include Vice President Nelson Rockefeller, and Senator Nelson Aldrich –one of the founders of the Federal Reserve Bank and the namesake of the property.
Today, the grounds and interior of the house have been restored to full splendor and are considered one of the city’s iconic buildings. Situated on Providence’s historic Benevolent Street, near Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design, and Providence’s Downtown area, Aldrich House is a central venue to some of the best hotels, restaurants, churches, sights, and shopping the city has to offer. Additionally, the gardens and lawn of the estate, where hosts frequently have tented receptions and dinners, are one of the few outdoor areas for a private event within the city’s limits. Maximum capacity for the grounds is 200.
